Responsible Care®

Responsible Care is the chemical industry's global voluntary initiative under which companies, through their national associations, work together to continually improve their health, safety and environmental performance, and communicate with stakeholders about their products and processes.

It is an integral part of the way we operate, being embodied in our Operations Integrity Management System (OIMS). Each system within OIMS is linked to the relevant Responsible Care management system, enabling action and results to be stewarded appropriately.

Helping our industry operate safely and with due care for future generations, Responsible Care delivers results. For example:

  • Energy efficiency among Responsible Care companies has improved by more than 24 percent since 1992 and greenhouse gas intensity during that same period has fallen by 28 percent (The American Chemistry Council)
  • Meanwhile, worker safety rates at Responsible Care companies are five times better than U.S. manufacturing as a whole, and three times better than the business of chemistry overall (The American Chemistry Council)
